1a/20 Challis St, Dickson ACT 2602, Australia Spill the Beans Cafe
OK coffee, but dirty glassware, along with slow and muddled table service and ordering. Food is on the expensive side and the servings are too large for anyone to consume on their own.
London Circuit & E Row, City ACT 2601, Australia Tosolini’s
Visited the counter to order my coffee because the table service never appeared. Double macchiato arrived in a slightly dirty glass, looking and tasting more like a piccolo latte. For a piccolo, it was decent enough.
242 Chapel St, Prahran VIC 3181, Australia Amici Bakery Cafe
Macchiato was burnt, with an overabundance of milk froth crudely dumped on top. This cafe is very large, so the wait for both service and coffee was slow. Still, their tarts and other baked treats were quite tasty.
217 Carlisle St, Balaclava VIC 3183, Australia Grindhouse Cafe
Super tasty short macchiato. Rich and full-bodied, seemed like a fairly restricted pour. Enjoyed the relaxed place & friendly and responsive service. The courtyard out the back looks like it would be a good spot to enjoy a sunny morning. Grindhouse has …
350 Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia Federal Coffee Palace
A hole in the wall in the Melbourne GPO building serving tables that span its long verandah. While the building is certainly palatial, the coffee here is good but otherwise unremarkable.
280 Carlisle St, Balaclava VIC 3183, Australia Wall Two 80
Wicked awesome cafe tucked behind a graffiti-clad wall just off Carlisle St. Expertly prepared, bold-tasting espresso and a simple but delicious breakfast menu (try the avocado & cottage cheese on rye or the sweet ricotta on toast).
353 Little Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia Brother Baba Budan
Exquisite espresso. My short macchiato had a rich, earthy flavour. I believe the house blend is Seven Seeds, while there are also single origin options if you choose. Plenty of bar seating crammed into the crazy, tiny space, which espouses a vibe of fri…
Carlisle St, St Kilda VIC 3182, Australia Galleon Cafe
We got to Galleon Cafe at 8:30 on a Saturday morning, and in our short half hour there, a queue of about 20 people formed waiting to get a spot at any of the cute 60’s-era melamine tables and chairs. This seemed to be a regular occurrence, because they …
129 Acland St, St Kilda VIC 3182, Australia Abbey Road
Double macchiato was a tad burnt, but otherwise, nice and short with good milk/espresso separation. Plenty of other things going for this place though: friendly pub-style feel, interesting breakfast menu (soft boiled eggs & soliders!), and the only Acla…
65 Northbourne Ave, City ACT 2601, Australia Benchmark Wine Bar
Enticed by the distinctive red Illy sign hanging outside, I popped in for a coffee. The place was open but empty, and they clearly were not used to customers coming in for coffee only. I placed my order and let the girl get to work behind the red Illy m…
