Josh is right. This upstairs pub indeed serves a pretty reasonable long black, using Coffee Supreme beans. Nice easy-going space to hang out for an afternoon, especially if you want your coffee to be followed by some beer.

The balcony beer garden is lovely and bright but sadly full of smokers.

Once described to me as “Melbourne’s most surprising beer garden”, this place also does a respectable long black, although you wouldn’t guess it.

If you have trouble finding it, that’s because it’s upstairs from the unassuming entrance on A’Beckett St.

This place has become my regular go-to place for my coffee run before work. Latte of consistently good quality is served fast in this tiny little cafe with great ambiance. Very often the latte from this place tastes velvety and heavenly. What tops it…

Cosy, and lit with those old world bare Edison bulbs, this is the perfect retreat from the craziness of the city.

Reasonable take-away long black, a little bit on the bitter side. Pick any of the myriad of cafes in Melbourne Central, they’re all about the same.

You know you’re in a Melbourne café when…and this place, nearly all ways you look at it, can complete that sentence. Is it a bar? Is it a café? Is it an unrenovated basement bustling with workers before the day ahead? What it is is a place to grab brekk…

Great, smooth coffee. The setting is a bit rough (Melbourne Central) however it’s easy access if you’re towing a little one.

I’d come back again for more of their marvellous beany brew!
