Just around the corner from the hub of cafés at Garema Place, Dieci e Mezzo sits at the bottom of the new ActewAGL building, an office-building café unlike any other that I’ve visited in Canberra. It has the trappings of a fine restaurant: quality table settings, attentive service, and an elegant ambience.

Their breakfast menu is inventive and remarkably well-priced. I was served one of the best Canberra breakfasts I’ve tasted: a deliciously simple mix of smoked herrings, caramelised onion and potato on sourdough toast. For just $9. You needn’t worry about the coffee either. My double macchiato was well made, good temperature and volume, and tasty to drink.

It’s no wonder this place has a restaurant feel. They are open for dinner from Wednesday to Saturday, and given my breakfast experience, it’s probably worth checking out.

So sought after but for what I wonder? At least it was drinkable, but you gotta wait!

It’s gone now. Just waiting what takes its place.

I’ll often stop into Tonic when I’m in Civic and they haven’t let me down yet. Piccolos are always silky smooth and plenty of body.

Nice new place that wasn’t too busy on a Saturday morning. Coffee was good. Fresh juice as well.

This was the worst cafe experience I have ever had. Period.
From being told that we would need to make a booking to use our Living Social coupon, as not to hurt their “core business”, to the unavailability of menu items the whole meal was horrible.
