Good double-shot macchiato rounded off an excellent meal

Let me first say that I have very much loved Loading Zone. Staff are friendly, food is delicious.
Coffee, unfortunately leaves much to be desired. When LZ first opened, the barista (Nagesh) made absolutely perfect coffees every time. Best in Canberra by far. Now you’ll be lucky to find him there at all, and if he is, he’ll be waiting tables and not making coffee.
The rest of the people who make coffee either considerably burn it, or essentially give you a cup of warm milk with no coffee flavour whatsoever.
While Nagesh takes no end of care when heating and pouring the milk, none of the others do at all.
This is a brilliant place to go for lunch, and is in a great location, but if you’re hankering for a drinkable coffee, chances are you won’t get one.
If you’re lucky enough to get one made by the original barista, well done, and please compliment him.

Even on a gusty and windy day the Loading Zone staff are friendly and energetic. The quality of the food coming out of their kitchen is beautifully presented and scrumptious. I highly reccomend the Italian pork sausage ragu to start your day.
Coffee today was good. Flat white was at a perfect temp and the consistency of the milk was nice and silky. The flavour from the espresso shot was light and did not cut through the milk. Despite this though it was a lovely cuppa and better than most cafes in Canberra.
All round, I left with a smile and a very happy belly. Keep up the good work LZ!

Having eaten at Loading Zone a good five or so times already (and at the time of writing they’ve only been open a bit over a week) I can say with a great degree of certainty that the food, service, and ambience are excellent. The coffee, on the other hand - is quite variable. Speaking exclusively for my mainstay, the cappuccino, I’ve had some somewhat mediocre (insipid, burnt, watery) concoctions through exquisite masterpieces in coffee form. The trick seems to be to have your coffee made by their barista Nagesh Seethiah (seen here: http://www.canberratimes.com.au/act-news/new-cafe-in-the-loading-zone-20130312-2fxl5.html) as opposed to the temp staff that often occupy the machine. And to go when they’re not too busy.

The food is great, the sweet selection is outstanding, ally location is funky, and the staff and owner (Joe) are charming. Overall 3.5 stars BUT if I were to rate the coffee only, it would come out with three stars for a slightly watery and bitter, though acceptable blend.
