Bean & Grain
A prestige Bakery Cafe which puts much more effort into its food than its coffee. Thankfully, then, the food is effing amazing, which puts the coffee at slightly above average.
A pleasant brew, but nothing spectacular.
My favourite new café in Canberra. The capuccino here is divine. About time the Fyshwick markets got something of this calibre.
On one occasion the service took so long I left without ordering. It’s a shame that a lot of work has gone into the food and surroundings without getting the front of house right.
Milk coffees have been ok but weak and too milky. Smaller cups for flat whites would be good.
Good strong latte! Comes with a little yummy shortbread. Service is a bit slow given that it’s not busy. Would like to breakfast or lunch here one day. The menu looks tasty.
Really, really good food and baked goods. Coffee has been consistently very good on each of my four visits. Very busy on the weekends, which is a good thing. Be warned: you may find yourself, as I did, sitting next to Canberra public servants loudly talking about leadership transition, team building and their next trip to Tuscany. I’m taking half a star off for that.
Well-balanced flavours in a cappuccino here, resulting in a sort of nutty bitterness. And that’s a good thing!
Patisserie made on site is light, but on the large side of generously-proportioned.
A new pâtisserie/café in the Fyshwick markets that roasts its own beans on site. My brew was pretty light for a double, although the flavour was aromatic and quite interesting. The service was great and the pâtisserie items were wickedly good, possible the best in Canberra.
